We have done much to stop the spread of AIDS in western nations, however many countries still have a high prevalence of AIDS in their societies. Some countries have quite high rates of AIDS prevalence in their communities. All countries in the top ten which have people infected with AIDS as a percentage of their total population are African nations. In fact, this percentage goes as high as twenty eight percent (of the population infected with AIDS; data is from 2003 so it may be quite old now – however this number is unlikely to be dramatically different now).
