When it comes to storing tools,it is far better to have an ordered area dedicated to them, than the system many of us put in place which often later involves the words ‘It’s in here somewhere.’
One of the first steps to take when organising your tools, is to get rid of those tools that are not likely to be used. Many of us will hang onto those old hand tools and power tools even after we have upgraded and bought newer items that will mean the old ones will almost certainly never be needed again. If you are ruthless in getting rid of the old stuff,as hard as it might be then, when it comes to organising what is left you will find it is far more manageable.
Next, choose the area in which you wish to store the tools and make sure you have the right storage facilities for them. For shovels and cutting tools such as saws, try hanging hooks on the wall which will allow them to be easily accessed whenever they are needed. For the rest of the tools, it is best to sort them in to types.
If you make sure you have a specific area for your cutting tools, another for your hand tools and another for those power tools, you will almost certainly be able to find what you want when you want it. Next, whether it is a small shed you have or indeed a gigantic garage, try to arrange these tools so that the ones you are likely to need the most often are nearest to the door. This will not only save you time, but also mean that the space is far more likely to stay ordered when you go to replace those items.
If you take the time to have a simple sort out, you may be very surprised at just how it easy it makes those little jobs further down the line.
