Morning sickness, or all day sickness as is the case for some women, is something that every woman thinks will happen when she is expecting.

Morning sickness, or all day sickness as is the case for some women, is something that every woman thinks will happen when she is expecting. It is caused by the increase in oestrogen and commonly starts around the sixth week of pregnancy, taken from the start of your last period. There may be other reasons for nausea, such as heightened sense of smell, and the increased production of progesterone. Progesterone relaxes the muscles in the uterus, but also the stomach and intestines, which can lead to excess stomach acid and reflux.
It is commonly thought that it is a good thing to have morning sickness, as it means the hormones are increasing and therefore the pregnancy is healthy. However, a lot of women don’t experience morning sickness at all and this can sometimes be a worry for them, especially if they have previously had miscarriages.
